“If your people aren’t heading in the right direction, don’t motivate them.” - George Odiorne

I love this message because it highlights the absurd to make a wonderful point that could be utterly transformational if we embrace the deeper meaning. It also lets humor creep back into the wonderful world of work! Here’s what I mean; see if this resonates with you. Does your team get the “why” or the “where” behind the process change, policy or new system? Do they understand the real impact of their individual roles and unique talents? When we understand why, we open the door to knowing purpose, and to seeing the big picture. Things that once seem disconnected, start to make more sense … our jobs take on more meaning AND we become empowered to make better decisions… decisions that are aligned with the intent behind the task, the policy or the job description.

All of a sudden … people begin moving in the same direction and the perceived need for excruciatingly detailed procedures is no longer necessary. When we get it… there’s no need to bullet proof procedures. A wonderful things happens when intent and desired outcomes are understood, innovation and creativity return to the workplace and people get to make decisions and become part of the process of creating a truly remarkable organization.

By the why, this also gives you an opportunity to evaluate whether or not all those little details and processes that evolve over the life span of a business are really necessary. As I work with clients, we almost always find processes and procedures that no longer serve who they want or need to  be. It’s very common to  discover reports with information that people no longer look at, processes that are no longer needed or opportunities to expand business and individual potential!

So, have funfind the humor in your unique predicament and then inspire those around you with “what could be” when everyone knows where they are going and  …. why they’re going there.

Much happiness and great joy to you and your team!

cat to lion.jpg If you separate spirit from work, you do your soul a deep disservice. Work is an expression of who we are. When we forget that, our work becomes empty and is no longer fulfilling. We spend far too many hours, days, weeks, months and years working for it to be just a way to earn a living.

Imagine what would happen if we saw our work as an expression of who we are? Imagine what would happen if we entered into our work asking - What can I do to make this a better place to be, work and grow? Our actions directly impact the lives of family members, friends, coworkers and the customers with whom we interact. You make real contributions to the world through your work.

Everything you do touches someone else. Imagine a world where all actions are guided by the realization that we have profound and significant impact on many life experiences beyond our own?

You are truly unlimited potential! You can do, be or create anything you desire. Do not buy into anyone or anything that tells you otherwise. Life and work are meant to be experienced fully.

So, what do you want to create, do or be? Think about it and enjoy every step of your amazing journey!

Abstract ButterflyThe center may not be your point of balance.

For you are unique in how you choose to express yourself. You express yourself by how you choose to use time … as you connect with your friends, work, play with family and explore your spiritual nature.

You know when you’re living your unique point of “life balance” when you feel at peace with your choices and feel fully present in the moment. That is, you’re not stressing out about the next task on your list or how you’re going to get it all done or … worrying about picking your son or daughter up from soccer practice … all while “working” on something else.

When we are not present and at peace, we feel stress and miss the opportunity to feel joy and fulfillment in what we are doing at this moment. The quality of your life is all about how you choose to use this present moment. So … stop beating yourself up for what you haven’t checked off of your “To Do” list. You will always, always have things to do, desires to explore and things to create. That struggle does not serve you.

You are always creating, so there will always be a gap between what you have today and what you want to be or do next. Welcome to the adventure called being HUMAN! The trick to living a joyful and fulfilling life is to choose to be okay with that gap and enjoy where you are now.

Peace and a sense of balance come when you no longer struggle with what’s not and you appreciate what is. Get over trying to be in two places at the same time and not getting enough done. Appreciate where you are now and look for the opportunities to enjoy what you are experiencing today. Feel and appreciate the amazing experiences that are now yours!

Until next time … enjoy your unique and magnificent journey!
